Legacy

Securing new talent

To have an ongoing talent pipeline for the sector we need to:

Make young people aware of roles in the sector

Encourage professionals with useful skills into the sector, such as teachers or psychologists

Support those studying careers qualifications

As part of your legacy, how can you help support the profession with this?

Mentoring & Supervision

Whether you’re looking to improve your practice and connection through having mentoring or supervision, or to be the one supporting someone else as part of your business plan, or you simply want to pay it forward, mentoring or supervision could be the answer.

You can also support the sector by giving your time volunteering and potentially mentoring others through schemes like:

Supporting Students

For those who are considering or even are already studying towards a careers qualification, you could also provide support through offering work experience or speak to the course providers on other ways they would appreciate your support. This might be anything from acting as a visiting lecturer to providing case studies or simply having a chat with their students about a day in the life of a careers professional. You can find course providers below:

Advocacy for the sector

A further legacy you can give to the sector, whether you’re leaving it soon or will be in it for a while, is to support the vital work with making our sector fit for the future.

This includes helping to raise awareness of the vital work we do and lots of people are campaigning for this, from the CDI’s Valuing Careers Campaign, to the #somuchmorethantalkingaboutjobs annual flashmob (follow on LinkedIn) to this petition to the government about protecting the Careers Advice job title. There are many ways for you to get involved.

What are we missing?

We’re stronger together and know that lots of you will have great things to share which we don’t know about yet but which are important to share with the careers community. Let us know if you think there are any further useful resources, information or website links we should be sharing.
